England internationals Dean & Scott Ashby, Jason White and Rowland Jones scooped the first prize of £300 at the Open Triples organised by Classic Pétanque Events on Sunday 23rd March.
The south coast competition attracted a quality field of 32 teams with the Kent based foursome prevailing 13-11 in a tight Final played out in near darkness against Phil Bradshaw, Steve Daykin and Kai Sheffield.

After the usual morning group qualification stage, the competition became a seeded Gold and Silver knockout with a further consolage in both for the first round losers.
The losing Gold Quarter Finalists were David Cruz, Tomasz Rypien and Marc Franco Llado; Becky Edwins, Alex Moriarty & Jonny Castaing; Keefe Wagstaff, Tommy Lee & Seb Cheng; and the all-female triple of Alex Spillett, Lori Welden & Sabrina Seville.
In the Gold Semi Finals, Dean, Scott, Jason and Rowley defeated Dean Webb, John Geddes and Ben Campbell 13-7, while Steve, Phil and Kai took the win against Nic Baxter, Callum Lombard and competition organiser David Plumhoff, 13-6.
In the Silver, the big news was the terrific performance of the Juniors team of Aimee Rickman, Alex Reed & Matt Butcher who only fell short in the Final to the team of Csabar Molnar, Tony Mann & Peter Williams. What a great result that was for the youngsters who only narrowly missed out on qualification for the Gold.
The Gold Consolage Final saw Matt Horrigan, Marcus Hickman and Barry Wing defeat Keith Atkinson, Trevor Gordon and Jason Bradley, while in the Silver equivalent, Colin Crofts, Colin Hersey & Chris Turner won against Darran Prior, Josh Freeborn & Allan Stevenson.
The early season round of Open competitions are revealing some patterns in terms of player form with the battle for international representation for both Men and Women soon to play out in earnest next month.
Special shout out to Worthing PC which has a long track record of hosting top competitions and local club member Martin Gordon who helped make sure that the day was a great playing experience for everybody.
