A group of three girls and three boys travelled to the PUK Club in Holland over the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of February to participate in a coaching and playing opportunity organised by the Dutch Federation, the NJBB.
The young players participating included Ethan Byrne, Sasha Davies, Amy Geddes, Nathan Huntley, Ayva Law, Alex Reed, Aimee Rickman and Alex Warren.
The young players were accompanied by Petanque England officials and the programme included training exercises on the Saturday morning followed by four rounds of matches in the afternoon.

The weekend culminated in the semi-finals and finals on the Sunday morning. The England pairing of Amy Geddes and Aimee Rickman made it into the girls’ final where they contested a close match, eventually being shaded out 13-8 by their opponents Marit Kok and Lois Van Hamond.
Our sister Dutch organisation ‘Petanque Live’ provided some excellent live coverage of the young players in action and took some great photos of everyone enjoying the experience. You can visit Petanque Live’s YouTube channel to catch the action. Thank you to Roby and Jean-Paul for their hard work.
You can also click on the YouTube video below produced by the NJBB which is a nice memento of the weekend.
The PUK (Petanque Union Kennemerland) club is on the outskirts of the town of Haarlem which is just 23Km from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. PUK has been based at its current site since 2005, which boasts 40 outdoor pitches and a further 20 indoors. The bar and eating area completes the Boulodrome, making the overall facility one of the best in Holland and well worth a visit.
Undoubtedly this was a positive learning experience of our players, some getting their first taste of international action.
